David M. Carroll (artist, naturalist, writer):

The author and illustrator for three books The Year of the Turtle, Trout Reflections, and Swampwalker's Journal (Summer 1999) David Carroll is an active lecturer and turtle/wetlands preservation advocate. His art and writing as well as his extensive field work with turtles and wetlands have been widely recognized and been the subject of many feature articles. David and his wife, painter Laurette Carroll reside in Warner, NH. Carroll has been awarded the prestigious "John Burroughs Medal" for the best nature writing of the 2001 for his work Swampwalker's Journal and was named the MacArthur Fellow in 2006 by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation (The MacArthur Fellows Program awards unrestricted fellowships to talented individuals who have shown extraordinary originality and dedication in their creative pursuits and a marked capacity for self-direction.)
